A Great Asset. Texas ’19
It’s 7:50am and I’m thinking whew today is going to be a long day. A long day of learning, exploring, touring, observing, listening, walking, and engaging. But I knew it would be worth it. So with that being said I got up in a good mood, I was really excited to see Texas Southern University because that’s where I want to pursue my dreams.
After me and my roommates were done getting dressed we headed down stairs to meet with Ms.Regina and another girl in PTC to have breakfast. After breakfast we quickly loaded up in the truck and headed toward Rice University; Rice Universities campus turned out to be really diverse. When we were waiting to get a tour I kind of felt out of place because with us being the only African American people walking up it was all eyes on us. Everyone was just looking at us. As a minority It just made me question my identity even more.
Our tour guide Akin was really enthusiastic and I loved how he explained things he really took his time with showing and explaining everything to us and I loved how he shared anecdotes to connect it to his experience.
As soon as we left Rice we headed a hour away to Prairie View. Where we were guided by Adrienne a alumni of EOYDC who did an absolutely amazing job giving us a tour I feel like I knew her and she was one of my close friends. Now prairie view A&M which stands for architecture and mechanics was a great school and campus. I absolutely loved it I knew I was going to like it at first glance. Prairie view is in the middle of no where but being on campus makes you feel at home. You have no choice but to meet new people and be social because they have a lot of places where you interact with others you will not feel isolated, and that’s what I love.
“ I feel like I will be a great asset to prairie view. “
