We believe that travel transforms the mind and the soul.
“Two types of journeys occur during travel. The outer journey describes the physical experience of travel:
where you went, what you saw and what you did. The inner journey defines your interpretation of the experience.
It describes what you learned, and how it changed your perspective on life”, says Lisa Mercer in USA Today.
As one of our main priorities, domestic and international travel is folded into the fabric of many programs
at East Oakland Youth Development Center. From Los Angeles to Shanghai, we take participants to
visit colleges, attend culture events, speak for audiences, and much more. On college tours, more than a
glance of campus life participants gain a peek into a future full of possibilities. Experiences of travel often include
overcoming adversity and making connections, resulting in bolstered character that is resilient, curious and confident.
Follow the journey of our youth from Oakland, Ca as they explore the world and discover themselves.
