The Monuments! DC’19

The Martin Luther King memorial which was fun, I was really excited because that’s somewhere I’ve always wanted to go. I felt really excited when I was looking at the statue and it just made me smile. I loved gaining some knowledge while we we’re reading the quotes alongside the wall. Overall, I enjoyed the whole experience and I hope later in my life I will be able to come back and maybe even bring my family. After visiting the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial we headed to the Lincoln memorial.

As we approached the statue everyone was in awe of the size of it. After racing up the steps, we first stopped on the step where Dr. King gave his “I Have a Dream Speech.” Jadyn mentioned that  now that she’s older and knows more of the history behind Abraham Lincoln’s  presidency she doesn’t think as highly of the monument as she used to. I think its because we all found out that Lincoln didn’t want to free the slaves but found out that he could not win the war without doing so.

After visiting the monuments we all headed to the Howard University, and Barnes and Noble bookstore. The store was filled with all types of Howard merchandise. Justin was especially excited to be there because his sister is a student at Howard and he wanted to have a jacket to represent. Everyone was really proud to represent the school’s name!
