“It’s different when you witness things with your own eyes” Texas ’18

When we arrived to Wiley, I felt so different. In my head, I was thinking: “Wow this is where i’m going to be the next 4 years and maybe longer.”

I was so eager and excited.  Taleah and Simone, that graduated Castlemont High School in 2017 gave us our tour around the school.I couldn’t wait to see the dorms because I wanted to see where I would  staying at while i’m there. Taleah and Simone showed us their dorms on the second floor and I fell in love with them. They had it all decorated with lights and pictures of them.

After they were done showing us their dorm, they introduced us to their sweet mate the person who lives right across from us. She was from Louisiana. They walked us to the men’s dorms where we met a couple of boys. They were telling us about all the different type of dorms…After that they showed us the Delta Sigma rooms. We talked to a couple different people today and met one of their English teachers named Mr. Lou, who is the first Black English teacher at Wiley College. When we talked to different people at Wiley, they gave us some good advice. One of the guys said:

“Wiley is whatever you make it”.

That really stood out to me because I want to make my experience there worth everything. Spending time at Wiley has truly made a big impact on me. I got to visit the school I will be attending in July as a freshman. It’s different when you witness things with your own eyes rather than someone showing you videos and pictures.
